LMWA May 23, 2010 CKC/ASFA certs

Information about LMWA’s upcoming CKC/ASFA cert day:

It’s almost lure coursing season!   In order to help you get your hounds ready to go, the Lower Mainland Whippet Association will be providing a day of certification runs:

Date:    Sunday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m.
Location:    Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission
Fee:    $10.00 per dog (includes 1 practice run and 1 official certification run)

Please arrange for a “by” dog for your certification run (no charge for the by dog).   LMWA might be able to provide some whippets as by-dogs but we will need to know in advance if you require one.    We will have CKC and ASFA certification forms available.

We’d appreciate it if we could get an idea of how many certification runs are required, so please let us know in advance if you will be participating.

Please forward to anyone you think might be interested.

Spring practice opportunities

Practice, practice, everywhere!

Whether you have young dogs to train or experienced dogs to get back in condition for the start of racing and lure coursing season, now is your chance! In the greater NW – from WWRC in the Portland area to WWWA and TPIHC in Western Washington to BCWRC and RFF in the lower mainland BC – there is practice somewhere (and often multiple locations) every weekend through nearly the end of March!

For more information about these practice opportunities, see the Calendar and click on the PINK practice listings (or try this neat trick: click on the down arrow button on the upper right corner of the calendar, and uncheck all the boxes except “Practic” to filter the calendar to just display practices)  and then on the “more details” link. Please contact the appropriate club members listed for more information about each practice.

TPIHC Mar 6 practice/certs and Mar 7, 2010 ASFA trial

Links to the premium for the following  event have been added to the calendar:

Please contact the webmaster if you have any trouble locating or downloading the premium. Please contact the field committee members listed in the premium if you have any questions about the event itself.

REMINDER:  Please refer back to this announcement if you receive a “damaged file” error message when downloading the PDF version this file. Thanks.

Practices and ASFA certs

Western Washington Whippet Association will hold two practices on Sunday, May 10 and Saturday, May 16, both in Monroe, WA. At the end of each practice a course will be set up for ASFA certifications. For more information, see the posting on the WWWA website.

Also Chintimini Kennel Club is holding practice on Saturday, May 9, as follows:

COURSING PRACTICE SATURDAY MAY 9

Chintimini Kennel Club has lure coursing practice at 2 locations.

CORVALLIS PRACTICE 10 AM

COTTAGE GROVE PRACTICE 1 PM

Go to www.chintiminikennelclub.com for directions to either field.
Both fields are good for  all dogs. Cottage Grove field is a 10 acre
horse pasture so especially good for large breeds or those needing a
longer straight run.

All dogs and puppies who love to chase are welcome.
All newcomers sign a hold harmless form.
Suggested donation of $5/dog.
For safety, no chain collars or flexileads allowed.  A leather or
nylon buckle or martingale (double loop) collar and lead is all you
need.

If you bring a slip lead (optional) and need help in using it, people
will be there to assist you.

(CORVALLIS)Do not park on lawn as there are underground sprinklers.
Please park on gravel or asphalt such that other cars may pass.
Parking available on field south of the grey house-upper portion
only,it will be marked.  Parking available by the basketball hoop on
the right south of duplexes.

(COTTAGE GROVE) Follow the signs down to the field, parking on gravel
by the barn.

Bring an extra lead so that someone can catch your dog at the end.
That way there is no waiting for the next person to take the lure
down to the start with their dog.

There will be people there to show you what to do, it is easy and and
fun and a blast to watch your dog run.

Both fields are fenced.  Bring treats if you need to if your dog does
not have a reliable recall.

Please address questions about the Chintimini KC practices to Sue Pisias.

Practices

I get many questions about race and coursing practice and just wanted to remind everyone that I do list these on the calendar when I hear about them. I just added a number of practice dates through late Spring that will be offered by the Washington Mixed Breed Dog Club (purebreds welcome too!) in Monroe, WA, in addition to some other practices already listed on the calendar, including CCC’s practice this weekend and TPIHC’s practice date at the end of the month in conjunction with their ASFA trial. Practice opportunities are in great demand, so if your club offers practice, please email the details to me at webmaster@asfaregion1.com so that I can list them on the calendar.
